Popunder campaign setup

Set up a popunder campaign on UluMob, with CPM or CPA pricing, no creative to upload, and billing at the moment the tab opens.

A popunder opens your landing page in a new tab behind the page the visitor is on. There is nothing to design: the page you send traffic to is the ad. See Popunder for where this traffic comes from.

Pricing

Pricing model Current default floor Charged when
CPM $0.10 per 1,000 opens The popunder opens
CPA $0.50 per conversion A valid postback arrives

Floors rise with the country you target. The traffic volume page shows the floor per country, and the bid field in the form shows the format floor. The current default minimum daily budget is $15.

With CPM, the open itself is the impression, so you are billed once per open. There is no separate click charge.

With CPA, you pay your CPA bid only when your tracker reports a conversion through the postback. You need conversion tracking working before you launch. See Postback setup.

Set up the campaign

  1. Go to /app/advertiser/campaigns/new.
  2. In Basics, choose Popunder as the format and CPM or CPA as the pricing model.
  3. Enter your bid and daily budget.
  4. In Geo and Traffic, choose countries, devices and operating systems.
  5. In Advanced, set a frequency cap. A cap of one open per visitor per day (1 impression per 1440 minutes) is a common starting point.
  6. In Ads, enter the Destination URL. No image, title or icon is needed.
  7. Select Create campaign.

Destination URL

Point the ad at your landing page or your tracker's campaign URL. Add {click_id} so conversions can be matched, and any other macros you want passed through:

https://tracker.example/c?cid={click_id}&zone={zone_id}&cost={cost}&geo={geo}

For popunder, {cost} carries what this open cost you, so a tracker can record spend per visit. See the macros list.

Several landing pages

You can add up to 50 ads to one campaign, each with its own destination URL. Use Ad rotation in Advanced to choose how they share traffic:

  • Best-paying ad first serves the ad with the highest bid for the visitor's country.
  • By weight splits traffic by each ad's Weight (1 to 1,000).
  • Evenly at random gives each ad an equal chance.

For a landing page split test, use By weight or Evenly at random.

Tips

  • A popunder gives no message before the page loads. A page that is slow or unclear on its first screen wastes the open.
  • Start with a tight frequency cap and widen it only if your reports show later opens still convert.
  • Group reports by zone after the first day, and block zones that spend without results. See Source lists and blocking.
  • If you want to pay only below a certain price, consider Smart CPM, which charges one cent above the next competing bid instead of your full bid.
