Video campaign setup

Set up an in-stream video campaign on UluMob with an https VAST tag, CPM or CPV pricing and a higher minimum daily budget.

In-stream video plays your ad inside a publisher's video player, before or during their content. You supply a VAST tag; the player requests it through UluMob and plays your ad. See In-stream video.

Pricing

Pricing model Current default floor Charged when
CPM $0.50 per 1,000 impressions The video impression is recorded
CPV $0.003 per view The player reports that the video started

The current default minimum daily budget for video is $50, higher than the $15 for other formats. Country floors can be higher than the defaults above; see the traffic volume page and the floor shown in the bid field.

UluMob answers the player with a VAST 3.0 wrapper around your tag. For CPM the wrapper lists our beacon as an <Impression> element and you are billed when the player fires it. For CPV it lists the beacon as a <Tracking event="start"> element instead, so you are billed one view, at your full bid, when the video starts playing. A beacon counts once however often the player fires it.

What each ad needs

Field Required Limit
Destination URL Yes http or https, up to 2,048 characters, macros allowed
VAST tag URL Yes https only, up to 2,048 characters
Third-party impression pixel No https only

The video file itself is hosted by your ad server and referenced from your VAST tag. Your tag must be served over https and respond quickly, or players will skip it.

Set up the campaign

  1. Go to /app/advertiser/campaigns/new.
  2. In Basics, choose In-stream video and pick CPM or CPV.
  3. Enter your bid and a daily budget of at least the video minimum.
  4. Choose countries in Geo and devices in Traffic.
  5. In Ads, enter the destination URL and the VAST tag URL (https).
  6. Select Create campaign.

Checking your VAST tag

Before you submit, open the tag URL in a browser and confirm that:

  • It loads over https without certificate warnings.
  • It returns a valid VAST document with at least one media file.
  • The media file is an MP4 that plays.

A tag that fails in review will be refused. A tag that starts failing after approval wastes the impressions you pay for, so keep an eye on your own ad server's reports as well.

Macros in the destination URL

https://tracker.example/c?cid={click_id}&zone={zone_id}&geo={geo}

See the macros list for all values.

Tips

  • Video inventory is smaller than display. Start with a broad country list and narrow it once you see where volume is.
  • The higher minimum daily budget applies to every video campaign, including tests.
  • Compare CPM and CPV in separate campaigns if you are unsure which suits your offer. Pricing cannot be changed after a campaign is created.
