Blocking sources

Stop a campaign from buying a zone or sub-ID straight from a report row, or keep reusable source lists across many campaigns.

When a zone or sub-ID spends without converting, you can stop buying it. UluMob offers two ways: a one-click block from a report row for a single campaign, and source lists that apply to many campaigns at once. Both take effect for new ad requests as soon as they are saved.

Block from a report

  1. Open /app/advertiser/reports.
  2. Group by Zone or Sub-ID, and make sure the campaign is known: either group by Campaign as well, or filter by Campaign ID.
  3. Run the report.
  4. On the row you want to stop, select Block source and confirm.

The Block source button appears only when the row names both a campaign and a zone or sub-ID. When the row shows both a zone and a sub-ID, the button blocks the sub-ID.

What happens next depends on what you block:

You block Effect on the campaign
A zone The zone is added to the campaign's blocked zones. If it was on the campaign's allowed zone list, it is removed from that list.
A sub-ID, when the campaign excludes sub-IDs or has no sub-ID rule The sub-ID is added to the exclude list.
A sub-ID, when the campaign buys only listed sub-IDs The sub-ID is removed from the include list.

If the sub-ID is the only one left on an include list, the block is refused, because removing it would leave the campaign with nothing to buy. Pause the campaign instead.

A block applies to that campaign only. To block a source in many campaigns, use a source list.

Source lists

Source lists live at /app/advertiser/lists. A list holds values of one kind, and you attach it to as many campaigns as you like. Editing a list updates every campaign that uses it.

List type Holds
Zones to include or exclude Zone ids
Domains to include or exclude Domain names
Sub-IDs to include or exclude Sub-ID values
ISPs to exclude ISP names
IPs to allow or block IP addresses or ranges in CIDR form

To create a list:

  1. Open /app/advertiser/lists and start a new list.
  2. Give it a name and choose what it lists. The type cannot be changed later.
  3. Add the values, up to 10,000 per list.
  4. Choose the campaigns it applies to and save.

Deleting a list removes it from every campaign that used it. For how lists combine with a campaign's own targeting, see Source lists and blocking.

Choosing what to block

Give a source enough traffic before judging it. A zone with a handful of clicks and no conversions has not had a fair test. Compare cost and conversions over the same period, and group by date to check that a weak result is not just one bad day.

Blocking a lot of sources narrows your reach. An include list does the opposite job: it limits a campaign to sources you have already proven.

Undoing a block

Blocks from a report change the campaign's targeting. To undo one, open the campaign in /app/advertiser/campaigns, edit its zone or sub-ID targeting and save.

Using the API

POST https://ulumob.com/api/v1/advertiser/campaigns/{id}/block

Send either {"zone_id": 123} or {"subid": "partner-a"}, not both. The response is the campaign's updated targeting. Source lists are managed at /advertiser/filters. See Campaigns API.
