Pop traffic

Pop traffic is the umbrella term for visits delivered by popunder and popup windows, bought in volume and usually priced per thousand opens.

How it works

"Pop traffic" groups the formats in which a publisher's page opens the advertiser's page in a separate window: popunders, which open behind the current tab, and popups, which open in front of it. In both cases the visitor did not click an ad for the offer; they clicked on the publisher's page and a new window appeared.

Buyers treat pop traffic as volume: many short visits, cheap per visit, narrowed by country, device, operating system and other targeting until the remaining slice converts. With no creative to test, optimization happens on the landing page, the targeting and the placements. A common workflow is to start broad, measure results per placement, then block the placements that do not pay back.

Example

Two zones each deliver 50,000 opens at a $1.00 CPM, so each costs $50. Zone A brings 40 sales at $5 revenue each ($200). Zone B brings 6 sales ($30), a $20 loss. Blocking zone B lifts the pair's combined profit from $130 to $150.

On UluMob

Pop traffic is sold as the popunder format, with domain redirect as its closest relative. Each open can pass {zone_id} and {subid} to your URL, so your tracker reports results per placement, and the blacklist_zones targeting field removes the ones that lose money. Opens that our filters mark as bot or flood traffic are not billed.
