Video ads

In-stream video ads play inside a publisher's video player before or during its content, and are usually delivered through a VAST tag.

How it works

Before (pre-roll) or during (mid-roll) the video it is about to play, the publisher's player asks an ad server for an ad. The answer is a VAST document: an XML format that tells the player which media file to play, where to report events such as the impression, and where a click should lead. Advertisers usually supply a VAST tag hosted on their own ad server, so they keep control of the creative and can count delivery independently.

Whether a viewer can skip depends on the publisher's player. Video inventory is smaller than display inventory, and the price per impression is usually higher.

Example

A video campaign at a $4.00 CPM serves 25,000 impressions: cost = 25,000 / 1000 × $4.00 = $100. If it brings 50 sign-ups, each costs $100 / 50 = $2.00.

On UluMob

In-stream video campaigns are billed per thousand impressions (CPM, floor $0.50) or per view (CPV, floor $0.003 per view). The minimum daily budget is $50, higher than for other formats. You provide a VAST tag over HTTPS; the media should be an MP4 of up to 30 seconds in 16:9 or 9:16. UluMob answers the player with a VAST 3.0 wrapper that lists its own impression beacon, and the charge is made when that beacon fires. Skippable placements are marked in reports.
